About
People have likened eBay to a worldwide garage sale. As the Web’s premier auction site, eBay pioneered both the idea and the means of matching millions of buyers and sellers all around the world.
The Internet has to some degree erased the factor of distance when it comes to buying and selling. Many shoppers, though, still prefer to buy locally–especially when it comes to high-end or one-of-a-kind items (cars or antiques as obvious examples).
This Great Deals site combines the convenience of shopping on eBay with the comfort of dealing with local sellers. We bring you actual, real-time eBay listings of items for bid or sale from right in our own community!
Benefits of “shopping locally on eBay”
1. You can save shipping charges if a seller allows you to pick up an item yourself. Such savings could be significant in the case of large or heavy items. In fact, some sellers of large or fragile items state that the winning buyer must pick up locally.
2. You may be able to inspect an item before you bid on it. For example, if you were interested in an antique whose condition and authenticity were crucial to determining its value, you might prefer to see it in person. (It is up to the seller whether or not to allow such inspections; see “Useful eBay Info” for link to information on how to contact sellers on eBay.)
3. If there is any problem involving an item you purchase, you may find that dealing with a “neighbor” makes it easier to reach a resolution.
More information
Although we are a completely independent site, be assured that when you shop through the listings here, you are shopping on eBay.
See the box on the left titled, “Useful eBay Info.” It contains several helpful links to eBay’s own information about buying and selling on eBay. You’ll find a great deal of additional information, of course, on the eBay site itself.
